As part of this continued evolution today many of the artists featured here also self-release their own material, run labels, publish fanzines, or are part of wider musical collectives. Aside from the first electronic, no wave, and post-punk artists cited as influences ' Suicide, Patrick Cowley, The Normal, Martin Hannett, Laurie Anderson, Public Image ' this new generation of artists also show an exquisitely open source of electronic and disparate influences, everything from Underground Resistance to Purcell, from Scientist to New Beat and more besides.

Tracks:

Title: Cold Wave #1
Artist: Soul Jazz Records Presents
Label: Soul Jazz
Product Type: COMPACT DISCS
UPC: 5026328104836
Genre: Electronic
Release Date: 2021-07-09
Number of Discs: 1
Additional Details: BOOKLET

Soul Jazz Records 'Cold Wave' is a new collection of current electronic artists who have been shaped by the early European cold wave artists of the late 70s and early 80s. Where the first DJs - Flash, Kool Herc and Bambaataa - were back-spinning, mixing and scratching together now classic breakbeat records like The Incredible Bongo Band's Apache or Babe Ruth's The Mexican, these first pre-sampling rap records were all made using live bands, often replaying then current disco tunes. As Chic's 'Good Times' was to 'Rappers' Delight', the songs here feature then-current dancefloor hits such as the Tom Tom Club's 'Genius of Love' or Cheryl Lynn's 'To Be Real' while MCs rapped over the top, creating a unique new sound. // This new Soul Jazz Records collection celebrates these first old-school rap records, bringing together rare, classic and obscure tracks released in the early days of rap.

Tracks:
1.1 The Carver Area High School Seniors - Get Live '83 (The Senior Rap)
1.2 Mike T - Do It Any Way You Wanna
1.3 Chapter III - Real Rocking Groove (Rap ; Breaks)
1.4 Sinister Two - Rock It, Don't Stop It
1.5 Sangria - to the Beat Y'all
1.6 Funky Four Plus One More - Rappin' and Rocking the House
1.7 The Just Four - Girls of the World (Genius Rap ; Breaks)
1.8 Eye Beta Rock - Super Rock Body Shock
1.9 Funky Constellation - Street Talk (Madam Rapper)
1.10 Kool Kyle the Starchild - Do You Like That Funky Beat (Ahh Beat, Beat)
1.11 The Just Four - Jam to Remember
1.12 Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five - Super Rappin' No. 2
1.13 Silver Star - Eei Eei O
1.14 Magic's Trick - Magic's Rap
Soul Jazz Records Presents: Yo! The deluxe triple LP comes with 3x inner sleeves of extensive sleeve notes, exclusive photography and original label artwork.

Tracks:
1.1 The Carver Area High School Seniors - Get Live '83
1.2 Mike T - Do It Any Way You Wanna
2.1 Chapter III - Real Rocking Groove (Rap ; Breaks)
2.2 Sinister Two - Rock It, Don't Stop It
3.1 Sangria - to the Beat Y'all (5.18)
3.2 Funky Four Plus One More - Rappin' and Rocking the House
3.3 The Just Four - Girls of the World (Genius Rap ; Breaks)
4.1 Eye Beta Rock - Super Rock Body Shock
4.2 Funky Constellation - Street Talk (Madam Rapper)
5.1 Kool Kyle the Starchild - Do You Like That Funky Beat (Ahh Beat, Beat)
5.2 The Just Four - Jam to Remember
6.1 Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five - Super Rappin' No. 2
6.2 Silver Star - Eei Eei O
Title: London Jazz Classics
Artist: Soul Jazz Records Presents
Label: Soul Jazz
Product Type: COMPACT DISCS
UPC: 5026328105918
Genre: Jazz
Release Date: 2026-05-29
Number of Discs: 1

London Jazz Classics originally came out in 1993 - the first album ever to be released on Soul Jazz Records. The album comes as a deluxe 2xCD set with extensive sleeve notes, jam-packed with heavy bass lines, synth and Wah-Wah guitar funk, combined with the heavyweight percussion, powerful brass lines and all-encompassing Latin rhythms of Cuban music known throughout the world. It features rarities from legendary Cuban artists such as Los Van Van, alongside Grupo de Experimentación, Farah Maria, Ricardo Eddy Martinez, Juan Pablo Torres, Grupo Sintesis and Orquesta Riverside, most remaining largely unknown outside of Cuba but have long been favourite club tracks and secret-weapons in Gilles Peterson's record boxes! It reflects the most cutting-edge of 1970/80s Cuban groups - all searching for a new Cuban identity and new musical forms reflecting both the Afro-Cuban cultural heritage of a nation that gave birth to Latin music and it's new position as a socialist state. Peterson and Baker have been involved in Cuban music for more than two decades - Gilles Peterson with his many Havana Cultura projects for his Brownswood label and Stuart Baker with a number of Soul Jazz Records albums recorded in Cuba. This Soul Jazz Records album is released in conjunction with Egrem, the Cuban state record company, and has been put together after the many crate-digging trips that both compilers have made on the streets of Havana and beyond in Cuba over a 20-year period.CD11. Soul Jazz Records' Life Between Islands collection is inspired by the launch of Tate Britain's exhibition of the same name, exploring the links between Caribbean and British art and culture from the 1950s to now. The album focuses on the most important Black British musical styles to emerge out of the distinctly Caribbean world of sound systems, featuring an all-star line-up including Dennis Bovell, Shut Up and Dance, Cymande, Digital Mystikz, Brown Sugar, Funk Masters, Janet Kay, Ragga Twins ' a lightning-rod journey across Roots Reggae, Jungle/Drum & Bass, Jazz-Funk, Lovers Rock, Jazz and Dubstep. Many of the tracks represent how Black British artists defined their own identity, such as Brown Sugar's righteous 'Black Pride' and Tabby Cat Kelly's powerful 'Don't Call Us Immigrants'. Aside from being musically rooted in the distinctly Jamaican-born phenomenon of the sound system, much of this identity is also shaped by the triangular relationship of being British-born, of Caribbean heritage, and with an equal love of African-American Jazz, Funk and Soul, as evidenced with many Lovers Rock reggae covers of American soul tunes. This stateside influence can also be heard in groups such as the Funk Masters whose jazz-funk music successfully crossed over into New York's clubland, and the great Cymande, whose unique street-funk became staple material for numerous US hip-hop artists. In the early 1990s, jungle and drum & bass artists took the essence of reggae's soundsystem culture ' MCs, dubplates, crews ' and applied them to their own music, combining heavy reggae bass lines with intense double-speed drum breakbeats. At the new movement's forefront were Shut Up and Dance, working closely with The Ragga Twins. In the early 2000s, dubstep, spearheaded by Digital Mystikz, became the latest instalment in this ever-evolving soundsystem culture. This collection shows how these many styles were interconnected.

Tracks:

Title: Studio One Rockers
Artist: Soul Jazz Records Presents
Label: Soul Jazz
Product Type: VINYL LP
UPC: 5026328704517
Genre: Reggae
Release Date: 2022-04-01
Number of Discs: 2
Additional Details: DIGITAL DOWNLOAD CARD

Double vinyl LP pressing. Here The Heptones even feature with a cover of Bob Dylan's 'I Shall Be Released'. - The influence of Soul music on Jamaican rock steady and reggae is almost palpable, so much so that one wonders how much more successful singers like Delroy Wilson, Alton Ellis, Slim Smith and John Holt would have been had they been born in Chicago, Detroit or Memphis. Artists such as Alton Ellis, Delroy Wilson and Owen Gray defined the era - a slowed down beat as Jamaican political and social heat slowly increased as the 1960s progressed into the start of the 1970s - and the music evolved further from rock steady into roots reggae.

Tracks:
1.1 Hortense Ellis - Sitting in the Park
1.2 The Termites - Rub Up Push Up
1.3 Carlton and the Shoes - Never Let Go
1.4 Alton Ellis - I'm Still in Love with You
1.5 Owen Gray - Give Me a Little Sign
1.6 The Bassies - Big Mistake
1.7 Hortense and Alton Ellis - Breaking Up Is Hard to Do
1.8 Slim Smith - Born to Love
1.9 Cannon and the Soul Vendors - Bad Treatment
1.10 John Holt - Strange Things
1.11 The Actions - Giddy Up
1.12 Larry Marshall - It Makes Me Feel
1.13 The Paragons - Change Your Style
1.14 Jerry Jones - Trying Times
1.15 The Heptones - I Shall Be Released
1.16 The Gaylads - the Soul Beat
1.17 Delroy Wilson - Run Run
1.18 The Soul Two - Puppy Love
1.19 Delroy Wilson - Riding for a Fall
Title: Studio One Story
Artist: Soul Jazz Records Presents
Label: Soul Jazz
Product Type: VINYL LP
UPC: 5026328600680
Genre: Reggae
Release Date: 2015-06-30
Number of Discs: 2
Additional Details: DELUXE EDITION

Limited double vinyl LP pressing. In the years that followed he established the careers of countless reggae legends - Bob Marley & The Wailers, Marcia Griffiths, The Skatalites, Horace Andy, Dennis Brown, Burning Spear and many more. From it's inception Studio One had been at the forefront of every major development in reggae music - ska, rocksteady, roots, DJ, dub and, starting in the second half of the 1970s, dancehall.Having attained such great success, by the late 1970s Clement Dodd was free to enjoy Studio One's now firmly established supremacy in reggae music. He released a series of stunning new albums at the end of the decade by Sugar Minott, Johnny Osbourne, Freddie McGregor and others that rode the wave of dancehall and set the path of Studio One's output for the following 25 years.During this period, long-established artists such as Alton Ellis, Jackie Mittoo and others returned to the label, recording some of their most creatively satisfying albums with new music that both celebrated the classic sound of Studio One while continuing to experiment, push boundaries and look forward to the future. This release celebrates this sometimes overlooked golden era at Studio One in the 1970s, 1980s and beyond.

Tracks:
1.1 Otis Gayle - What You Won't Do for Love
1.2 Earl Sixteen - Love Is a Feeling
1.3 Alton Ellis - Back to Africa
1.4 Prince Jazzbo - Apollo 16
1.5 Johnny Osbourne - Eternal Peace
1.6 Errol Dunkley - Don't Do It
1.7 Omega - Bounty Hunter
1.8 Noel Bailey and Sound Dimension - Wiggles Diggles
1.9 Freddie McGregor - I Am Ready
1.10 Prince Jazzbo - Imperial I
1.11 Jackie Mittoo - Lovers Rock
1.12 Devon Russell - Swing and Dine
1.13 Sugar Minott - Guidance
1.14 Dolly Man - Trigger Happy
1.15 Nana McLean - a Little Love
1.16 Tyrone Taylor - Rightful Rebel
1.17 Wailing Souls - All Alone
1.18 Sugar Minott - Revelation
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0914/0758/1520/files/4371144-3234453_d4352b7f-545a-4569-adda-e1869817dd04.jpg?v=1788128269
soul-jazz-records-presents-studio-one-soul-3
Soul Jazz Records Presents: Studio One Soul 2 - COMPACT DISCS
Title: Studio One Soul 2
Artist: Soul Jazz Records Presents
Label: Soul Jazz
Product Type: COMPACT DISCS
UPC: 5026328105567
Genre: Reggae
Release Date: 2024-09-20
Number of Discs: 1

New one-off pressing coloured vinyl 18th anniversary edition of the long-out-of-print Studio One Soul 2, the long-awaited second volume of one of the largest selling Soul Jazz Records' Studio One collections. Studio One Soul 2 takes us deep into Jamaica's long-standing fascination with American Soul and Funk music. Featuring a host of seminal Reggae artists who all first established their careers at Studio One before finding worldwide success. Featured artists include Horace Andy, The Heptones, Cornell Campbell, Ken Boothe, Jackie Mittoo, Jacob Miller and many more A-Class Studio One legends interpreting both classic and little-known American Soul and Funk tunes by the likes of Curtis Mayfield, Bill Withers, The Five Stairsteps, Marvin Gaye, The Stylistics, Lee Dorsey, Al Green, Syl Johnson and more.Curtis Mayfield is without a doubt the main soul influence for many reggae groups in the 1960s and 70s. Cornell Campbell's 'Ten to One' featured here is a stunning recut of the original Studio One single by The Mad Lads who first covered this Curtis-penned hit for the Impressions. Another great Curtis Mayfield production, The Five Stairsteps and Cubie's 'Don't Change', is interpreted by Studio One soul man Winston Francis. Similarly, Devon Russell's superb 'Make Me Believe in You' is, if anything, superior to Curtis Mayfield's ground-breaking original. While American Soul and Funk remain a constant source of inspiration on this album, classic DJs such as Prince Jazzbo and Little Joe also used these rhythms to ride vocal toasts over to serious effect. This selection features a mixture of classics, super-rare and unreleased tracks from Studio One all lovingly digitally re-mastered for this release. Includes digital download. Soul Jazz Records Deutsche Elektronische Music Volume 2 is now available as two separate double LPs for the first time in over 10 years!! Soul Jazz Records' 'Deutsche Elektronische Musik 2' is their second voyage into the world of Krautrock and German electronic music from the 1970s and early 1980s. Two double LPs (with over 2½ hours of amazing music) features a stunning line-up of seminal German groups, including Can, Faust, Popul Vuh, Neu!, Cluster, Amon Düül II, La Düsseldorf, as well as a host of lesser known and more obscure groups and artists such as Agitation Free, Bröselmaschine, Niagara and many more. As well as the original pioneers, 'Deutsche Elektronische Musik 2' also features many of the second wave of German electronic artists and groups from the late 70s and early 80s (DAF, Asmus Tietchens, Rolf Trostel), who successfully connected new wave, minimal synth and a European post punk avant-gardism with the earlier more established Krautrock pioneers who began at the start of the 70s. Influenced as much by the electronic experimentalism of Stockhausen as the progressive rock of USA and UK underground rock, young German artists seamlessly created a new music with it's own unique identity, which they ironically entitled Krautrock. By the end of the 1970s, with the arrival of new wave synthetics and complex drum machines, this music had mutated once again into new electronic visions reflecting a new Germany. The vinyl edition comes in two volumes of heavyweight, super-loud vinyl double albums, featuring all sleevenotes and text.

Tracks:

Title: Studio One Soul 2
Artist: Soul Jazz Records Presents
Label: Soul Jazz
Product Type: VINYL LP
UPC: 5026328305561
Genre: Reggae
Release Date: 2024-09-20
Number of Discs: 2
Additional Details: COLORED VINYL, YELLOW, DIGITAL DOWNLOAD CARD

Tracks:
1.1 Westbound Train
1.2 People Make the World Go Round
1.3 Aint' No Sunshine
1.4 Swing Easy
1.5 Choice of Colours
1.6 Choice of Music, Pt. 2
1.7 Fool for Love
1.8 Ten to One
1.9 Don't Change
2.1 Jumping Jeshosophat
2.2 Get Out of My Life Woman
2.3 Darker Block
2.4 Red Robe
2.5 Make Me Believe in You
2.6 Compared to What
2.7 Thinking
2.8 Land Call Africa
2.9 Fancy Pants
soul-jazz-records-presents-studio-one-007-licenced-to-ska-james-bond-and-other-film-soundtrack-and-tv-themes
Soul Jazz Records Presents: STUDIO ONE 007 - Licenced to Ska: James Bond and other Film Soundtrack and TV Themes - Vinyl LP
Title: STUDIO ONE 007 - Licenced to Ska: James Bond and other Film Soundtrack and TV Themes
Artist: Soul Jazz Records Presents
Label: Soul Jazz
Product Type: VINYL LP
UPC: 5026328005157
Genre: Reggae
Release Date: 2023-08-18
Number of Discs: 2
Additional Details: GATEFOLD LP JACKET, DIGITAL DOWNLOAD CARD

Soul Jazz Records are releasing this new 2xLP expanded version of Studio One 007 - Licenced to Ska: James Bond and other Film Soundtracks and TV Themes, originally only ever available as a long deleted 7" RSD box set. This Studio One collection on Soul Jazz Records delves deep into a melting pot world of reggae and funk and dub created at the music laboratory of 13 Brentford Road, Kingston in the 1970s - an intense collaboration of crack musicians, singers, DJs and engineers under the guidance of producer Clement 'Coxsone' Dodd. Here you will find some of the deepest and rawest cuts to emanate out the Studio One factory - truly hypnotic rhythms, powerful funk guitar and bass, soaring horns and more interspersed with occasional vocals and toasting as musicians reach for the highest heights and deepest roots of reggae music. Some of these tunes here are rare and classic versions to seminal Studio One vocal cuts from the likes of Horace Andy and Hortense Ellis. There is also a wealth of cuts from simply the greatest musicians ever to come out of Jamaica (let alone Studio One). These include Jackie Mittoo, Roland Alphonso, Cedric Brooks, Ernest Ranglin and the Brentford All-Stars. You will find straight up funk bombs such as Lennie Hibbert's mind-blowing 'Go For Yourself' (sounding like The Meters meets James Brown!), the Brentford All-Stars covering War's classic 'The World is a Ghetto', and Jackie Mittoo showing how to make Cream's 'Sunshine of Your Love' into a reggae funk bomb! All of these sit beside super-deep roots and dub cuts that exemplify together how Studio One was unique in Clement Dodd's pioneering vision of reggae, the music created functioning with a continuous level of experimentation that blurred the lines between genres and pushed the outer limits of reggae music at all times. Fire Over Babylon: Dread, Peace and Conscious Sounds at Studio One features a stellar selection of '70s roots music classic and rare tracks recorded at Clement Dodd's musical empire at 13 Brentford Road in the 1970s. Rastafarian-inspired Roots music was an ever-important aspect of Studio One's output from the start of the 1970s onwards and this album features many of the ground-breaking groups and artists that established the sound of Jamaica during this decade and beyond. Featured here are seminal artists such as Freddie McGregor, The Wailing Souls, The Gladiators, Horace Andy, Devon Russell, Cedric Brooks, Count Ossie, Judah Eskender Tafari alongside a host of lesser-known rare cuts made at Studio One from artists such as The Prospectors, Viceroys and Pablove Black. Studio One and founder Clement Dodd's connection with Rastafarianism dates back to the early 1960s, with Dodd accompanying members of the Skatalites up to the hills of Kingston to listen to the music of the Rastafarian Count Ossie and his drummers. The album sleevenotes discuss how Clement Dodd's musical links, as well as his role in heading the most important record label in Reggae, are in many ways linked to the beliefs of Rastafarianism.

Tracks:

soul-jazz-records-presents-deutsche-elektronische-musik-2-experimental-german-rock-and-electronic-music-1971-83-record-b
Soul Jazz Records Presents: Deutsche Elektronische Musik 2: Experimental German Rock And Electronic Music 1971-83 - Record B - Vinyl LP
Title: Deutsche Elektronische Musik 2: Experimental German Rock And Electronic Music 1971-83 - Record B
Artist: Soul Jazz Records Presents
Label: Soul Jazz
Product Type: VINYL LP
UPC: 5026328104942
Genre: Rock
Release Date: 2022-08-05
Number of Discs: 2
Additional Details: DIGITAL DOWNLOAD CARD

Double vinyl LP pressing.

Tracks:
